Seismic Hazard Assessment Oil and Gas Facilities
Seismic Hazard Update for new gas fields project
(Papua New Guinea) in a very high activity region.
Client: Total Energie Year: 2020
Detailed probabilistic and deterministic seismic hazard assessments in accordance with international standards and best practice to support the design of onshore and offshore pipelines and facilities distributed over more than 300 km.
The project area is in a complex and highly active seismotectonic environment characterized by a rapid crustal deformation resulting in the occurrence of large magnitude earthquakes, a number of crustal active faults and a complex subduction zone.
Development of earthquake catalogue based on the most up-to-date compilation of data. The alternative seismic source models are based on the consideration of volume sources, 3D faults and subduction plans. Sensitivity studies were carried out in parallel of the SSM and GMM developments to identify at an early stage the key issues and controlling parameters.
PSHA and PFDHA Nuclear Site
Probabilistic seismic hazard and fault displacement hazard assessments (PSHA and PFDHA) for a new research nuclear reactor.
Client: Pallas Year: 2018/2019
PSHA and PFDHA for a nuclear site located in a low activity region of Western Europe, in order to provide seismic parameters for the conception and seimic design of the new build.
PSHA and PFDHA studies were carried out through an iterative approach compliant with IAEA-SSG9 guidance.
Uncertainties on the key parameters were carefully characterized and discussed with an expert panel. Through expert elicitation, the adopted input models, the results of the additional investigations and related interpretations were challenged by the project team in order to identify the alternative interpretations and quantify the uncertainties.
Compliance to the relevant good practice was reviewed by a pee-review expert panel.
SHA for tailing dams in Europe
Seismic Hazard Assessment for tailing dams consistent with GISTM standard, internal client procedures and national regulations
Client: RTC Year: 2022/23
Detailed Probabilistic and Deterministic seismic hazard assessment for 36 sites in various regions of Western Europe (stable/active), following the requirements of multiple standards: GISTM, Internal Group procedures, French decrees for critical facilities and large dams.
Definition of seismic actions (UHS, time histories, soil response analyses) for the seismic risk assessment and retrofitting of tailing dams and mining waste storages in the general framework of the sites rehabilitation and decommissioning.
SHA for large dam project
Seismic Hazard Assessment for the hydroelectric dam project in a very active region.
Client: EDF/CIH Year: 2022
Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessment (PSHA) and Deterministic Seismic Hazard Assessment (DSHA) for a large dam in Himalaya, a region of very high seismicity and historically destructive earthquakes, following the requirements of the ICOLD guidelines.
PSHA and PFDHA for large dam project
Probabilistic seismic hazard and fault displacement hazard assessments (PSHA and PFDHA) for a large dam in the African Rift Valley
Client: Tractebel Engineering Year: 2020/22
Development of a fault portfolio with due quantification of uncertainties to characterize the potential for surface rupture and verify the site suitability according to the requirements of the World Bank.
Assessment of the annual probability of exceedance of spectral accelerations and permanent displacement consistently with the ICOLD guidelines.
Non-ergodic PSHA for a chemical industrial complex
Partially non-ergodic PSHA for chemical complex close
to a gas field (France)
Client: ARKEMA Year: 2021
Probabilistic seismic hazard assessment in the framework of the 2018 decree for seismic risk assessment of SEVESO plants. A site-specific partially non ergodic approach is implemented in order to improve the classic ergodic PSHA by using 10 years of recordings from induced seismicity due the gas field operation.
This project combined the development of a refined seismic source model based on the concept of zone of detailed investigation (ZID) based on the exploitation of more than 50 years of local data on the gas field, and the adjustment of ground motion models based on local records.
SHA for a LNG site
Seismic Hazard and Liquefaction Hazard Assessment
for a LNG site active region of India.
Client: TOTAL ENERGIE Year: 2019
The site lies in the Northern part of the Gulf of Kutch in the Gujarat State and is located in the tectonic zone of convergence and collision between the Indian and the Eurasian plates.
Despite a seismic activity more moderate than in the Himalayan belt, the Gujarat state has experienced major earthquakes in a recent past, with moment magnitudes close to Mw 8. A probabilistic seismic hazard assessment and a 1D soil response analyses were performed to evaluate the modification of the competent soil horizon ground motions as they propagate through the soil profile up to the surface.
Given the potential for liquefaction triggering in some of the subsurface layers, both total-stress and effective stress, nonlinear analyses were conducted.
PSHA for hydropower project
Probabilistic seismic hazard assessment for a large
dam, in a region surrounded by active faults.
Client: EDF Year: 2020
Independent and state-of-the-art site-specific hazard assessment following ICOLD guidelines, at a dam site in the Sham Plateau (Myanmar), to challenge two previous studies exhibiting inconsistent seismic hazard levels.
Development of fault sources models and definition of seismic design parameters.
